The 'reference' Element

The 'reference' element contains an 'href' attribute and an optional 'type' attribute

The 'href' Attribute

The 'href' attribute contains a URI that points to the source document which the meta-data contained in the BLIP message represents.

The 'type' Attribute

The 'type' attribute is an optional attribute which is used to specify the document type of resource pointed to by the 'href' attribute. If no 'type' attribute is provided it is assumed the resource is an HTML or XHTML document.
